One day, Remy and Callie were traveling across a great lake. Mid way across, Remy drops his fishing rod. Unable to reach it in time, he watches as the rod sinks and disappears. “Don’t worry Rem” said Callie. “Mark the side of the boat, so that when we reach our destination you will know where to look”. When they reach the shore, Remy jumps into the water exactly where he marked the boat but, to his dismay, he never finds the rod.
This story has many parallels to education. We as teachers are passing through time, and so are our students. It is difficult to make predictions of how things will look in the future, and so, trusting in the measurements of today is only so valuable tomorrow. We have to be adaptable and ready to take action when the time is right.
